Lube It Up!
Two mechanical
lubricators with 2 outlets each, were used. 0ne lubricates the
cylinders. The other lubes the
axle pump eccentrics (pictured below in Yellow) and crosshead
bars.
As you can see in the picture, a cross member was added to
stiffen up the frame. When this thing runs on air, there's some
heavy torque going on.
MODIFICATIONS:
I originally had oil lines going to the axle pump housing
(in red above) but quickly found out that oil was getting into
the water supply. I am now doing what others have done and
rely on the water to lubricate the axle pump pistons.
Pilot Truck
Ball/roller/needle
bearings were used on everything except the pilot truck.
The Little Engines design used plain bearings.
Oil
cellars were made and stuffed with velour cloth.
To make
it easy to lubricate the front journals, a manifold was bolted
to the front truck with oil lines going to each journal. An oil
cup was connected (in red below) to the manifold and installed
near the mechanical lubricator for easy access.
If you look close enough,
you can see the tubing and manifold.
