Observation Car #4 Bobtail Roof
Now that one end was done, we’ll work on the more difficult observation end. A cardboard template was made cutting slits to allow for the curvature. The cardboard template was used to transfer the cutouts to the 16 ga. Observation Roof Panel (CD). The piece was then bent and welded.
A hole was cut for the light and a 2" Light Housing (CL) was welded in. The welds were made smooth by grinding and filing. It was then sand blasted (gray picture below) to get it ready for some body filler. After a few hours, it took the shape I finally wanted. To hold the light and outer ring to the pipe, a brass insert was made and pressed into the Light Housing (CL).
